spicy chex party mix
Making Chex Mix at home allows you to reduce the salt, bump up the spice and include all of your favorite snack items in one delicious mix.
I’m known to be picky when it comes to my snack preferences. I love Chex Mix, but always pick something out, wish there was something added or want it extra spicy or sweet. Making various mixes at home allows me the freedom to make it exactly the way I like it. I actually hate pretzels but have found that the pretzel Goldfish are a great alternative that I don’t mind eating and won’t deprive the pretzel lovers in my life. Feel free to mix this up however you choose, just try and have the dry ingredients add up to about 15 cups to keep the same seasoned butter to mix ratio.
- 3 cups corn Chex cereal
- 3 cups rice Chex cereal
- 3 cups wheat Chex cereal
- 2 cups Cheez Its
- 2 cups pretzel Goldfish
- 2 cups honey roasted peanuts
- 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoned salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Evenly spread and mix cereals, Cheez Its, pretzels and peanuts over two rimmed baking sheets.
- Combine butter, Worcestershire sauce, season salt, garlic powder and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
- Evenly drizzle sauce over all dry ingredients and toss to coat.
- Bake at 250 degrees for an hour and fifteen minutes, removing pans from oven to stir every fifteen minutes.
- Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to a few weeks.
Love this version. Especially with the pretzel goldfish!! I also like to switch up the fat when I make chex mix at home. Olive oil or pork fat also work well :P
My mom always made this ( of course the best I’ve ever had!) and I never got her recipe before she passed away; it was in her head :-( I am looking forward to trying this one for the Super Bowl this weekend! Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing. I do hope that you enjoy the recipe – sounds like I have some big shoes to fill! :)
