baileys irish affogato
Rich ice cream succumbs to the heat of espresso, melting into a velvety smooth affogato. A shot of Baileys gives this traditional Italian recipe an Irish twist just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
Affogato, translating to “drowned” in Italian, is created by pouring a hot shot of espresso over a scoop of ice cream or gelato. The result is the silkiest dessert perfectly pleasing to those who prefer their desserts to not be overly sweet. We used an espresso chip ice cream to accentuate the espresso, but any complimenting flavor would work well. The espresso does not completely melt the ice cream, but merely softens it into a velvety texture as the flavors combine. For an adult twist, an additional shot of Baileys transforms the dessert into a delicious take on Irish coffee.
- 2 scoops ice cream or gelato
- 1 ounce Baileys Irish Cream
- 2 ounces hot espresso
- Scoop ice cream into an Irish coffee mug.
- Pour Baileys Irish Cream and hot espresso over ice cream.
- Serve immediately.
