Pumpkin-shaped Cheddar Spritz Crackers perfect for fall entertaining

Get more use out of your cookie press by creating festive holiday appetizers like these Cheddar Spritz Crackers.

Spritz cookies have been a central part of every Christmas cookie plate in our family since before I can remember. I am so excited to have stumbled across the idea for making savory crackers using my beloved cookie press. These crisp, buttery Cheddar Spritz Crackers are simply delicious and will absolutely be making an appearance on our next holiday cheese and cracker spread.

  • 1 pound sharp cheddar cheese (finely shredded)*
  • ½ cup butter, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In the stand of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream cheese, butter and Worcestershire sauce together until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth ball of dough is formed.
  4. Fill cookie press with dough and spritz desired shapes onto an un-greased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are a light golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool slightly and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to one week.
*Pre-packaged shredded cheese contains several additives to preserve and avoid clumping. For best results, always shred your own cheese.

Have you ever tried adding a bit of cornmeal to the dough? I am not very experience with my OXO press (but have had good results with this recipe). Cornmeal and Cheddar – yum! What do you think?

Hi Jen, the instructions are asking you to cream those ingredients together, not use cream cheese. Hope this helps!

Well, here is proof that food bloggers make good advertisements for companies. I am a huge fan of OXO and own a lot of their tools. Your photos and recipe are so beautiful, that I just bought the cookie press and the autumn disks. I love this recipe and look forward to making them for family and friends. Thanks!

I too have and love many OXO products. Many were from blogger outreach gifts etc, but this press and disk set were bought on a whim recently. I think I’ve now made it through all of the disks except the turkey (but I have big plans for it)! I just adore that they have new seasonal shapes to add to the classic base set.

A Tablespoon-sized ball lightly flattened (they don’t spread much) or if you have any of the cute cookie cutters designed to imprint a shape onto the dough, that would be really fun too!
